Burcy

Burcy

Located in the south-west of the Seine-et-Marne department, on the edge of the Loiret, between the Gâtinais and the Beauce, Burcy is an essentially agricultural commune. The two hills of Burcy and Avrilmont leave their mark on this southern end of the Ile-de-France and the Gâtinais Park.

Burcy is a fine example of a Gâtinais village where rural architecture is an essential element. A large through street, a small medieval church and its square, several small ponds, a slightly isolated cemetery but above all a typical architecture still authentic.

The church is of particular interest because of the wealth of sacred furnishings it houses and the originality and quality of its stained glass windows by the Belgian artist Jean-Michel Folon, who set up his studio in Burcy in 1968. It has been listed in the supplementary inventory of historical monuments since 1985. Cereal farming is more than just an economic activity for the village, it has shaped the landscape and remains its main manager.
