Nanteau-sur-Essonne
Embedded in the green belt of the Ile de France, on the borders of the Loiret and Essonne, the village is typical of the southern Seine et Marne and benefits from strong environmental protection: a natural area of ecological, fauna and flora interest, a Natura 2000 site and the classified site of the Upper Essonne Valley. The village has preserved its architectural quality despite the conversion of former farm buildings.
Archaeological excavations have uncovered a dry stone structure, originally covered with earth (tumulus), which was originally the inner chamber of a Celtic burial site.
The oldest parts of the church of Saint-Martin date from the end of the 12th century, and is a very interesting Gothic building.
Four hamlets extend the commune: Barbacanne, Boisminard, Courcelles and Villard.
